Body long oval with small head.

Upper eye lies close to dorsal edge of head.
Mouth small and asymmetric.
Nostrils large.
Teeth in both jaws in a close single rows.
Ocular side of body yellow or dark-brown.
Live in depths of from 50 rn on the continental shelf to
700m on the sandy and muddy bottoms of offing
Eat mostly inactive small marine animals located by means
of gustatory and olfactory senses.
Extent of migration marrow.
Swimming movement slow.
Found in Japan Sea and the Pacific Ocean along the central
and northern coasts of Japan’s main island.
Caught by trawlers.
Somewhat expanded bulbus olfactorius is closely adhered to
lobus olfactorius.
Lobus olfactorius large,
consisting of two layers, the upper of which having large
projections on dorsal aspect.
The central axis of
telencephalon curved to right.
Lobus inferior large, anterior
part of which is hypertrophied egg-like shape.
Saccus vasculosus oblong.
Lobus opticus egg—shaped, small and asymmetric.
Corpus cerebelli small knob-like
and expanded posteriorly.
