Eyes and nostrils enormously large: mouth large.
Pectoral ”lin extremely elongated. The lower soft rays ot
pectoral tin are long and separated into tive or six parts.
Body color red with one black spot on posterlor part of
spine ot dorsal tin.
Live in
waters of depths of
300 400 m
around the continental shelt,
which are. in most cases. sandy, muddy or gravelled regions.
Eat small fishes and small marine animals at the sea-bottom
located by means of gustatory and olfactory senses.
Extent of migration narrow
Swimming movement slow.
At the sea-bottom fully utxlize
the long pectoral fin.
This species is ovoviviparous.
Distribution extends from the the waters of central and
northern
parts of Japan's main lsland to the waters of
Hokkaido and Saghalien.
Caught by trawlers.
Bulbus oltactorius closely attached to lobus olfactorius.
Lobus oltactorius well-developed with a distinct longitudinal
fissure.
lnterëor lobe and optio lobe quite welldeveloped.
Corpus cerebelli relatively small
Crista cerebelli as well as
somatic sensory lobes in cervical cord well-developed.

that an expanded medulla oblongata is observed.
