Lower jaw extremely protruding compared with upper.

in lower jaw exposed outside.
Nostrils and mouth
large; eyes rather small.
Two sharp spines present below
anterior part of each eye.
Body color changes according to the environments in which
fishes live.
Some are greyish»red, some blackish-grey and others,
greyish—white.
Bottom fish living at the bottoms of reefs and the gravelled
regions in the shallow waters of the continental shelt.
Search for food
by means of olfactory sense.
Eat inactive small marine animals on and in the
neighborhood of the sea-bottom.
Extent of migration narrow.
Sometimes at dawn and in the twilight, rise to the surface
pursuing prey and migrate carried by water mass.
Swimming movement slow.
Found in the waters of the southern part of Hokkaido,
Japan's main island and Kyushu.
Fish are known to
deliver ovoviviparous
larvae.
Mostly caught by pole and lines, long lines and fixed nets.
Bulbus olfactorius relatively small and closely adhered to
lobus olfactorius.
Lobus interior expanded laterally.
Lobus opticus anteriorly expanded, oval and small.
Corpus cerebelli small.
