Adults attain about 18 cm in body length.

Body elongated and compressed.

Snout pointed; mouth small.
A posterior canine tooth in
upper jaw proiecting forward.
Four anterior canine teeth are
observed in upper and lower jaws.
Males have light-brown color with bluish ti—nge.
Females light-brown and smaller than males.
Live at the sandy bottoms of shallow waters*of shallow seas.
ln the daytime, slip into the sand or lie on the sand, but
they are not nocturnal fish.
Extent of migration narrow.
Swimming movement very slow.
Found in the waters of the central and southern parts of
Japan.
Caught by pole and lines.
Bulbus olfactorius small and closely adhered to the lower
part of lobus olfactorius.
Lobus olfactorius consists of
upper and lower parts, extremely large.
Lobus inferior oval and expanded laterally.
Lobus opticus egg-shaped.
Corpus cerebelli small.
