Adults attain about 90 cm rn body length.

Body elongated and compressed.

Mouth large.
Villous teeth‘present in both jaws, on vomer
and palatine.
ËË'ËÎ ‘
Dorsal surface greyish-blue, ventral surface, silver-white.
Live around reefs and in gravelled regions where shallow
water is found.
In the summer ascend rivers which are mingled with sea
water.
Carnivorous fish which greedily eat çrustaceans, shell—fish
and small fishes mainly by means of sight and
auditory sense.
Found in Japan from Hokkaido to Kagoshima, and also in
Formosa, Korea and China.
Caught by purse seines and dragnets.
This species is also
a game fish.
Bulbus olfactorius closely attached to lobus olfactorius.
Lobus olfactorius well-developed with a dorsal protuberance.

Optic lobe very well-developed.
Corpus cerebelli extends
dorsally with a deep transverse fissure.
Crista cerebelli
and acoustico-lateral lobe well-developed.
