5.7.5 Abiotic Data
The climatic data for 2008 and 2009 confirmed the existence
of two distinct seasons: a wet season from December through
March and a dry season from June through September. December 2008 had the highest rainfall average (442 mm), followed by January 2009 (282 mm). The driest months were
June 2008 and June 2009, when no precipitation occurred.
The maximum temperature during the study period was recorded in December 2009 (29.0 °C) and the minimum was
recorded in June 2008 (23.9 °C; Fig. 5.4).
The 2nd-STAGE nMDS was consistent with the above
findings, showing that there was no pattern of high correlation between the communities sampled in the same month
of the year (e.g., December 2008 and December 2009) or
the same season (dry and wet; Fig. 5.5). For rivers in both
temperate and tropical regions, seasonal climate variability is accompanied by changes in the communities (Sporka
