112 Chapter 4 Euphausiids
Mediterranean Sea. In the Pacific, it is widely
distributed between 45°N and 45°5. Both short
and long forms are found in the Southeastern
Pacific. Off Chile, S. longicorne has been found
along the coast between 25° and 38°5, and occasionally between 20° and 48°5 (Antezana 1978).
The Southern most record of the species is off
the Patagonian shelf at 48°S and 91 ow. It was not
found before in the Chilean nothern fjords nor
along their entire latitudinal range (Antezana et
al. 1992). In the South Atlantic off Argentina, S.
longicorne was found toward the subtropical sectors (Antezana and Brinton 1981). In the present
study, few specimens were sampled including
o ne female from 50-100 m at St. 9 and two males
from 100-150 mat St. 14. They all resembled the
"long form" described by Brinton (1962a).
