Acknowledgements
Once again, it is a pleasure to record our gratitude to those who have contributed to
the preparation of this new Atlas. As for the first volume, Giorgio Dafnis of the Stazione Zoologica prepared the material for the scanning electron microscope and took
all of the SEM micrographs, with the assistance of Gennaro Iamunno. Giuseppe
Gargiulo printed the micrographs. Pino Arena generated the distribution maps and
Vincenzo Bonanzinga helped in the data analysis. In addition, we thank the crew of the
R/V Cariboo who participated in the 1991 cruise to the Magellan Straits, and the National Antarctic Research Program (PNRA) for their financial support.
We are grateful to Dr. H.G. Andres (Hamburg University) and Prof. S. Ruffo (Museo
Civico di Storia Naturale, Verona) for their critical comments and suggestions on the
chapter regarding amphipods, and to Dr. A. Alvarifio (National Marine Fisheries Service, La Jolla) for use of the drawings on chaetognaths.
