Female. Body stout. Cephalothorax 2.3
times longer than wide. Dorsal region
of head strongly vaulted in lateral view.

ventroposteriad in lateral view. Al not
reaching end of cephalothorax. Proportional
lengths of cephalothorax and abdomen
Clausocalanus laticeps
157
72 : 28; proportional lengths of abdominal
somites and furca 34: 19: 16: 15: 16 = 100.
In lateral view, ventral lobe of seminal
receptacle large, dorsal lobe slender and
digitiform. Points of last joint of P5 smooth
and lacking spinules.
Remarks
The vaulted forehead is usually a distinctive
character of C. laticeps females (Frost and
Fleminger 1968). We did not record males.
Distribution
C. laticeps is considered by - Frost and
Fleminger (1968) a sub-Antarctic species. It
has been reported for Chilean fjords (Marin
and Antezana 1985) and offshore Argentinian
waters (Ramirez 1970, 1971). In the present
study, only a few individuals were sampled
from 100-150 m off Cape Froward.
