2.3.3
Distribution via Internet
NASDA is delivering data, images and ADEOS-related information to
the public via the World Wide Web. Users can browse such public
information on the Internet directly and can download processed images
using visualizing tools. The information contents include the ADEOS
science program, information on events, user’s guide, near real-time data,
cities in Asia observed by AVNIR, ozone data measured by TOMS, sea
surface temperature and chlorophyll-a concentration maps retrieved from
OCTS data, sea surface wind maps retrieved from NSCAT data, the first
images of each sensor, ADEOS data sets and so on.

EARLY RESULTS FROM ADEOS OBSERVATION
3.1
Calibration and validation
NASDA carried out image quality estimation, calibration and validation
activities to confirm the expected performance of the data generated by
OCTS and AVNIR. Some line noise remains in some images, but NASDA is
continuously improving the image quality. For the other sensors, each
instrument provider has been carrying out similar calibration and validation
tasks.
3.1.1
OCTS
NASDA has estimated the characteristics of processed products by
measuring the spatial resolution, the geometric accuracy and the variability
of sensitivity. The spatial resolution of 700 m and the signal to noise ratio
from 700 to more than 900 were confirmed and met the specifications. The
line noise was verified as well reduced level for the scientific research and
application use. After version 3 of the algorithm is developed, the
improvement of the sensitivity and the geometric accuracy will be reevaluated. The reprocessing of OCTS using version 2 algorithm will be
accomplished by the end of September 1997.
