The MODIS and Pathfinder climatology were computed using 11 years of observations collected
between 2000 and 2010, while the OSI-SAF climatology was computed over a 6 year period between
2005 and 2010
(Lutjeharms 2006) and strong evaporation constantly reduces the number of clearsky observations from IR sensors. It is interesting to notice the strong differences in
the sampling capacity of the Pathfinder v5.2 and Reprocessed MODIS SST datasets.
Despite similar global daily coverage, the MODIS dataset provides a much larger
