etc . Euryale ferox is said to have been introduced
by the local people by replacing Trapa natans L.
var. bispinosa. Further, phumdis (about 0.5–
0.90 m in thickness) occupy about 5 ha in the
northern side of this lake.
Fish
Thirty fi ve species of fi shes have been recorded
in this lake. Some of these are Acantophthalmus
pangia , Amblypharyngodon mola, Anabas testudineus , Catla catla , Cyprinus carpio , Labeo
rohita , Lepidocephalichthys berdmorei , L. guntea , Puntius sarana , P. sophore , P. chola , P. ticto ,
Esomus danricus , Clarias batrachus, Mystus
bleekeri , M. cavasius , Ompok bimaculatus ,
Chanda nama , Parambassis ranga , Glossogobius
giuris , Trichogaster fasciata , Channa orientalis ,
C. punctatus , C. striata , Monopterus albus ,
Macrognathus aral, Heteropneustes fossilis , etc.
20.2.12.4 Oinam Lake
Oinam Lake (Plate 20.60c ) is a shallow freshwater eutrophic wetland (commonly called lake)
having an area of 0.71 km
2 approx. It is situated
at Oinam village in Bishnupur District of
Manipur, about 21 km from Imphal City. It lies
between 24° 25′ and 24° 40′ N latitude and 93°
45′ and 93° 55′ E longitude, about 783 m above
MSL. The climate is mainly of subtropical monsoon type. The temperature generally varies from
5.5 to 33.1 °C. Rainfall usually varies from 2.8 to
988.6 mm. The lake sustains the people living in
and around it, who use the lake for pisciculture,
agriculture and other household purposes.
Plankton and Macro-invertebrates
Some of these are Euglena sp., Daphnia sp.,
Ceriodaphnia sp., Moina sp., Cyclops sp.,
Planaria sp., Belostoma indicus, Gyrinus marinus, Dytiscus marginalis, Hydrophilus caraboides, Laccotrephes branchialis, Notonecta glauca,
Gryllotalpa gryllotalpa, Gerris gibbifer, etc.
AM
About 50 species of AM are recorded in this lake.
Some of these are Hydrilla verticillata, Eicchornia
crassipes, Sagittaria guayanensis, Lemma perpusilla, Scirpus lacustris, Cynodon dactylon,
Phragmites karka, Zizania caducifl ora, Nymphaea
micrantha, Ceratopteris thalictroides, Nymphaea
nouchali, Euryale ferox, Polygonum barbatum,
Rumex maritimus, Trapa natans L. var. bispinosa,
Centella asiatica, Oenanthe javanica, Ipomoea
aquatica, Azolla pinnata, etc .
