The water managers of the federal states Saxony and Brandenburg will use the
model. The scientists will provide a proposal for monitoring programs which
should be kept running to control the results of the prediction model. It is anticipated that with the help of this model, the water quantity and water quality situation in the River Spree will improve continually. Another objective is to implement parts or the total of the model on other catchment areas. The knowledge
collected in this project and the expertise gained by the scientists should
strengthen the international concept of integrated water management.
Acknowledgment: The authors would like to thank Hillel Rubin for his help with
various aspects of this work and in particular for the discussions about IWRM we
had during his stay in Aachen.
