Figure 1. QualIty assessment process for a geotechmcal test.
Performing a geotechnical test is a sequence of different operations (Fig. 1):
execution of the test according to a given procedure, gathering of the row data (1),
correcting row data and tracing curves (2); from these curves, extracting values of
geotechnical parameters (3). In order to assess the quality of the test results, the
analyst checks if there is any noticeable deviation during the execution of the test
(6) or on the curve (4) and verifies the coherence of the test results with the soil
type (5) (7).
4
METHODOLOGY FOR ASSESSING THE QUALITY OF
GEOTECHNICAL DATA
The adopted methodology for assessing the quality of geotechnical data is based
on a two level strategy: the first level concerns the site investigation program test
examination (checking data quality of each test and verifying coherence between
all the tests performed at the site). The second level concerns the comparison
between site tests and similar tests on the same soil type currently available in the
database.
4.1
A one site verification - This level involve two parts
4.1.1 Particulate verification
This concern each individual test performed at a specific location which involves:
• Procedure verification regarding norms, including drilling or sampling
methods and a test procedure.
• Calculated parameter verification, to ensure that they fall within the
typical range of values for this type of soil.
• Checking the curve shape with respect to the test type and soil type.
• Obtained value coherence in one test.
