Attains 12 cm. Common from Transkei northwards and
throughout Indo-West Pacific. Shallow reefs and rocky
areas. Probably distinct from S. scaber (Ramsey & Ogilby,
1886); see discussion by Smith (1957: 66). Most specimens
from our area clearly referable to guamensis.
