The geographic distribution of the species in
Europe is illustrated in Figs 1-10. Species diversity
was measured by counting the species at intervals of
5 degrees, between southern Spain and the Mediterranean islands, and the North Pole.
We follow Fryer's (1987) classification and, for
anostracans, the check list of Belk & Brtek (this
volume), except for the genera Drepanosurus and
Siphonophanes which we consider distinct, and for
Branchinecta skorikowi which we consider a synonym
of B. tolli.
