ification in S. lamellifer. The three species of the cirratus group are reported to be equipped with spinosedenticulate cercopods. In the gracilis group, S. gracilis
has setose cercopods, while S. papillatus has spinosedenticulate cercopods. In species of the remaining
groups, spinose cercopods are more frequently found.
Thus, S. kargesi, S gauthieri, S. vitreus, S. bourquinii,
S. woottoni, S. indistinctus, and S. coomansi are the
only species in their groups with setose cercopods

and the ovisac seems of no importance for the systematics of the group above species level (Table 2).
Given their restriction to one group of American
species, the biramous ovaries appear to be a valuable character in understanding interspecies relationships. At the same time, it is a useful characteristic
to differentiate the females of different co-occurring
