the parameters controlling the physical processes of dilution and sinking,
all other parameters of the model are in reality nonlinear functions that are
deeply interrelated with the state variables of the model. As it stands, the
model developed in this chapter is still too general to be of much use for
either analytical or numerical treatment; the next two chapters will therefore be devoted to further specification and parametrization of processes
involved in controlling growth and nutrient utilization in phyto- and
zooplankton populations.
