AIO A Literature Survey of Model Parameters
This section contains tables of relevant model parameters taken from the
literature. The survey does not pretend to be exhaustive - any reader will
probably find some favorite reference missing. Since the major uses of
these collections are in terms of robust location measures like medians and
interquartile ranges, the general trends should hopefully be preserved
despite this incompleteness.
Table AIO.I. Published maximum growth rates (II"; day·l) in plankton algae (for temperatures
at or close to 20°C). Species marked by ,. are classified as resistant to zooplankton grazing
either due to large size (equivalent spherical cellular or colonial diameter >20 11M (e.g.,
colonial Microcystis aeruginosa) or largest axial dimension >100 11M (e.g., Synedra aeus and
Asterionella formosa», or from the presence of antipredator defense like a resistant
