• • Procedure
1. Follow the instructions for sterilization as given in subprotocol 1.
Sterilization
1. Fix the insect dorsal side up, because the CNS runs along the ventral Dissection
midline.
2. Make an incision along the dorsal midline from the head to the last
abdominal segment.
3. Remove the CNS, from the brain to the last abdominal ganglion.
4. Remove the attached fat bodies, trachea and other tissues.
1. Wash the nervous system in physiological solution.
Culture
2. Transfer the nervous system into culture medium.
set-up
3. Cut the nerve cords so as to separate each ganglion.
4. Cut each ganglion into two to several pieces.
