Mitsui and Riddiford (1976) cultured the integuments of matured larvae
of the tobacco hornworm in Grace's medium using a similar method to
that of Agui et al. (1969, 1972) but supplying a mixture of95% O2 and 5%
CO 2 • The cultured larval integuments formed a tanned pupal cuticle in
response to 20-hydroxyecdysone.
