1. Feed Artemia nauplii to the collected Tubularia in the laboratory (cf. Feeding
Artemia preparation and feeding hydra in the comments of the
subprotocolO.
l. Clean the animals of debris, wash them, and place them in Instant Sterilization
Ocean (synthetic sea salts) containing 0.03% kanamycin.
2. Starve the animals for 48 h before use.
3. Place the animals in a petri dish containing Instant Ocean adjusted to
pH 3.0 with HCl.
l. Excise the hydranth at its junction with the stalk.

2. Remove the coenosarc from the stalk by sliding microforceps along
the perisarc (Fig. O.
3. Excise the proximal 15 mm of the coenosarc, and place it in a Maximov
slide.
