In the present chapter, a descriptive account on pollution- and eutrophication-induced changes of the macrophytobenthos in the northern
Adriatic is presented, while the microphytobenthos and bacteria were
recently studied by Herndl et al. (1989).
16.2 Study Area and Ecological Conditions
The northern Adriatic is a shallow shelf with a maximum depth of 50 m
offshore and 25 m nearshore in the study area (Fig.16.1). In the Gulf of
