Arabian Sea Upwelling

When the HOE was planned, it was considered a valuable objective to examine the
upwelling regions which had been reported in the Arabian Sea (BOBZIN, 1922) but had
never before been the object of scientific observation.
The only subsurface observations available from these areas were those made by

the John Murray Expedition during the NE monsoon period of 1933 - 34, and no
information was available from the summer months during which the upwelling took
place.
