The construction of the road that connects Bonaberi to Bekoko caused the breakdown of many mangrove stands at the locality of Yapaki. Along this axis, shrubs of
all mangroves characteristics species are frequently observed. The rehabilitation of
the Wouri Bridge area in the 1980s, the creation and expansion of the port area and
the creation of new residential areas including Mambanda (Bonaberi), Deido,
Bonanloka, significantly reduced the surfaces of mangroves. This loss of vegetation
cover of mangroves has ecological, economic and social effects.
