ecosystems in Latin America is still lagging behind and, without the pertinent knowledge, sustainable management of ecosystem resources is in
jeopardy. Perhaps as a first step, a competent revision of the existing, albeit
sparse information based on individual and isolated studies often dispersed in local sources outside the international mainstream is now timely and important.
