5. Past Changes in Climate and Tree Growth in the Western Americas 85
comparative study of tree rings from North and South America. These
include ENSO, high-latitude forest response to climatic change, and CO 2 -
induced growth enhancement. Tree-ring records from both Americas
provide high-resolution , precisely dated information on past climate and
tree-growth changes over prior centuries to millenia. As such, they are a
valuable resource that could be exploited for AMIGO's comparative
studies of forest ecosystems and their responses to global change.
