geochemical cycles through the estimate of short
time-scale accumulation of sedimentary material and related chemicals on the sea floor, the
effects of physical and biological mixing, and the
influence of the presence of the front area on
sediment-water interactions. Therefore, we studied a number of short sediment cores collected
along land-sea transects crossing the front area
and a few cores collected at the same stations in
different seasons. Furthermore, we focused our
attention on the surficial layer of the collected
cores representing the short and very short timescale variations by using 234Th and mes to
understand some of the mechanisms leading to
the formation of sedimentary layers.
