large size at birth) (Holden 1974; Walker and
Hislop 1998) could explain some differences
between the two Adriatic sides, but local environmental features should be considered as well.
The sampling methodology could also
strongly affect the results, and the use of univariate ecological indices is a matter of debate
(Huston 1979) for marine resources (Caddy and
Sharp 1986; Caddy and Griffiths 1995).
South Adriatic demersal fish diversity updating (1996-1998) could however be useful for the
development of research (if the same methodology is used) in order to describe future marine
environment changes due to ecological or
anthropical factors.
