information from various countries was a good
reference for Japanese oyster culture. Especially,
recent pathological information was very important for the seed culture of each country.
After the congress, the Japanese delegation
visited several oyster farms along the Atlantic
coast, Arcachon-Aquitaine, Marennes, Bretagne
Sud, and the stations of Institut français pour
l’Exploitation de la Mer (Ifremer).
In Marennes, Mr. Goto who examined seed
oysters before exporting in 1968 was guided to
the seabed in Mouillelande where the first
seed from Japan was released. And he could
exchange information with the oyster grower
who transported the first seed that arrived in
Paris to Marennes. It was just a historical
