SIMON:
In my opinion the JACOB-MoNOD flip-flop is too slow, for rapid memory, at
least. To apply the flip-flop here, one has to have a sensitive decay of one
repressor protein available as well as of its messenger templates. The known
decay times for mRNA are min to hrs, for proteins only hrs.
GRIFFITH:
It is generally thought that memory storage may involve more than one
phase, with different mechanisms. My talk has referred to the later phases and,
as I discuss in reference [29], the first phase may be dependent upon residual
transmitters.
