soil microclimate. A general climate cooling can be observed during the Subboreal. It seems to
have been accompanied by a decrease in precipitation. Peat bogs dried up. Aquatic
environments underwent a transformation from low-centred polygons to high-centred polygons
with vegetation similar to high bog peats. In all palynologic ally investigated Holocene sections,
a significant rise of Ericaceae pollen percentages and a simultaneous decrease of Hydrophythes
was observed for this period. Suprapermafrost soil horizons were dated to 4630±70, 4200±65
and 2900±50 yr BP at some peat sections (see Table 2, No 46,51 and 52, respectively).
Altogether, the Holocene climate warming did not change the geocryological conditions in the
Labaz Lake area radically. The area was, as it is today, characterized by a domination of cold
