9. Place the ampoule firmly into the silicone tubing with the cannula sticking through
the silicone tubing above it (see Fig. 9.2). Start the flow ofN 2 gas (200 ml/min) to the
infrared CO 2 spectrometer and maintain this flow until the recorder reads
zero.
Crush the end of the ampoule within the tubing with a pair of pliers. Quickly
push the cannula down into the ampoule until the tip is well under the liquid.
Continue passing N 2 until the recorder returns to zero. Remove the ampoule,
