Incorporation of interactive coupling requires a minimum level of accuracy in
each of the dynamical processes. Evaluation of such dynamically linked models is
becoming possible via a suite of remote sens ing, satellite and aircraft sensors,
coastal radar, in-situ profiling instruments etc. Over the next decade, operational
oceanography will extend rapidly (Woods et al. 1996). This will provide the infrastructure to establish the requisite monitoring networks and maintain linkages to
the associated meteorological, marine (ocean) and terrestrial (hydrological) models. Thus new challenges and opportunities will be presented building and extending on the developments described here.
