peri-urban areas. Other means of transportation was bicycle. Higher commuting
time and poor mode of transportation indicate vulnerability of peri-urban respondents to heat waves compared to urban respondents.
Employing the criteria used by the Household Income and Expenditure Survey
(2011), respondents were divided on the basis of income into various categories.
Results indicated that majority of the urban respondents belonged to high income
group (67.3 %), followed by middle income group (25.3 %) and low income group
(7.3 %). In case of peri-urban respondents, the majority belonged to middle income
