~ A final workshop at the completion of the activities for the evaluation of the
outputs and the impact of the project. This workshop will aim also at promoting
and disseminating the results achieved.
As the project is being implemented through the active participation of a variety
of actors, an attentive and supportive co-ordination is required.
The European Environment Agency provides technical and institutional
assistance that will facilitate the consensus on technical options and overview the
co-ordination of the different national institutions.
The Applied Meteorological Foundation (FMA) provides scientific assistance
which includes elaborating proposal to be reviewed at the operational workshops,
on the following issues:
• The technical specification for the system;
• The system design;
The identification of development needs;
The technical assistance to the information system;
The support to the management of the system.
The UNCCD Secretariat provides for the co-ordination of the project activities,
the management of technical and financial resources and the follow-up of the
project's strategic objectives.
The country partners are requested to will actively participate through their
NCBs and the selected relevant scientific institutions. The countries participating
in the implementation of the project are:
• Northern African sub-region: Algeria, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia;
• Northern Mediterranean region: Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Turkey.
Further expansion of the information system is expected in term of adhesions of
other potential partners, as well as other potential contributors and donors.
The European Union (EU), the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA), and the Sahara
and Sahel Observatory (aSS) support implementation and the expansion of the
system to other Mediterranean countries.
