The South of Brazil and North of Uruguay is characterized by a large number of
coastal lagoons (for a detailed description see Knoppers and Kjerfve, this book). They
included practically all types from choked to leaky and within the choked those with
long inlet (typical of the Uruguay coast such as Rocha Lagoon) and short inlet. The
