• Structural analysis, as implied by its name, aims to elucidate (bio )chemical
structures. The information it produces can pertain to an individual analyte
(a pure compound such as a protein) or a whole sample (e.g. the spatial
distribution of its components).
Qualitative Analysis identifies a property of the analyte (or its reaction product),
Quantitative Analysis measures it in numerical units and Structural Analysis
interprets it. As can be seen in Fig. 1.20, the three concepts can be related to one
