Annex!
Traceability of an aliquot. Unequivocal relationship of a sample aliquot subjected to a CMP to
both the social or economic problem (representativeness) and the result (sample custody chain). In
this way, consistency between the problem and result
(cyclic traceability) is assured (Chap. 3, pp. 133;
Fig. 3.15).
Traceability of an instrument. Documented history
of the performance of an instrument (installation,
malfunctioning, repairs, servicing, calibration, correction, hours of use, samples processed, etc.).
Through calibration, the relationship to standards
implicit in the traceability concept is established
(Chap. 3, pp. 134, 138).
Traceability of a method. A property of a method
through which the results of its CMP are related to
well-established references (Chap. 3, p. 135).
Traceability of a result. A property of a result or of
the value of a standard through which the result or
value is related to well-established national or international references via an unbroken chain of comparisons characterized by their respective uncertainties (Chap. 3,pp.l04, 130, 131, 133, 135, 136, 138).
S. "Method".
A word used to designate analytes present in proportions below 0.01% (100 ppm) in the sample
(Chap. 1, p. 24, 31, 33).
Objects of fixed mass used to calibrate balances.
Available in various classes dependent on their
uncertainty and issuer (Chap. 3, pp. 109, 114, 119,
125, 137; Box 3.5).
An attribute of a CMP that reflects its ability to
provide consistent results on application to the same
samples in different laboratories. Related to robustness and reliability (Chap. 2, p. 85).
S. "Chemical analysis".
The foundation of traceability of a result (Chap. 3,
p.130).
The quality of being indeterminate in number,
amount or extent.
Generic uncertainty. Dubiousness in the chemical
composition of an object or sample. The opposite of
information (Chap. 2, pp. 43,44).
SpecifIc uncertainty. The range of values where a
result, a mean of such values and the value held as
true may fall. Similar to, but not the same as, pre-
