Reference method. A method that is used to compare the accuracy and uncertainty of routine
methods (Chap. 8, p. 325).
Relative method. In Quantitative Analysis, a method
based on comparisons between measurements of
the sample and of a set of analytical standards. The
outcome of such comparisons is the result (Chap. 6,
pp. 252, 263, 271, 275, 277 - 279).
Relative extrapolation method. A relative quantitation method based on the establishment of a signalconcentration relation (the calibration curve)
(Chap. 6, p. 271).
Relative interpolation method. S. "Relative extrapolation method".
Standard method. A method that is developed,
validated and specified in detail by a competent
body (Chap. 8, pp. 325,340).
Traceable method. A method whose results (and
uncertainties) are linked to a well-known standard
(Chap. 8, p. 325).
Validated method. A method the properties of
which have been thoroughly studied and specified
(Chap. 8, p. 325).
S. "Calibration".
The science of physical, chemical, biochemical and
biological measurements (Chap. 1, pp. 2, 27; Chap. 3,
pp. 102,105-107,109,112,115,116,120,141,142).
S. "Chemical analysis".
Analytes the proportions of which in the sample
range from 0.01 % to 0.1 % of their masses (Chap. 1,
p. 33; Fig. l.24).
A technological trend to dramatically reducing the
size of analytical tools, integrating modules of a
CMP or both (Chap. 4, pp. 175, 176).
A base standard and a base unit of the International
System (SI) defined as the amount of substance that
contains as many elemental units (atoms, molecules,
ions, electrons or other individual particles or particle
groups) as are in 0.012 kilograms of the isotope carbon-12 (Chap. 3, pp.109-112, 119, 135, 137, 139, 140).
An extrapolation procedure for method calibration
used in relative quantitation methods (Chap. 6,
p.274).
