Annex A: Terms and definitions ofthe ISO 19100 standards
233
eurve segment
I-dimensional geometrie objeet used to represent a eontinuous eomponent of a eurve
using homogeneous interpolation and definition methods (lS039 2003)
NOTE
The geometrie set represented by a single eurve segment is equivalent to a eurve.
eycle

spatial objeet without a boundary (lS039 2003)
NOTE
Cycles are used to deseribe boundary eomponents (see shell, ring).
A eycle has no boundary beeause it closes on itself, but it is bounded (i.e., it does not
have infinite extent). A eircle or a sphere, for example, has no boundary, but is
bounded.
data
reinterpretable representation of information in a formalised manner suitable for
eommunieation, interpretation, or proeessing (ISOIEC07 1993, IS050 2002)
data element
unit of data that, in a eertain eontext, is eonsidered indivisible (IS050 2002)
data interehange
delivery, reeeipt and interpretation of data (lS050 2002)
dataset
identifiable eolleetion of data (lS047 2003)
data level
level eontaining data deseribing speeifie instanees (lS034 2002)
data quality date
date or range of dates on whieh a data quality measure is applied (lS045 2002)
data quality element
quantitative eomponent doeumenting the quality of a dataset
NOTE
The applieability of a data quality element to a dataset depends on
both the dataset's eontent and its produet speeifieation; the result being that all data
elements may not be applieable to all datasets. (lS034 2002)
data quality element
quantitative eomponent doeumenting the quality of a dataset (lS045 2002)
NOTE
The applieability of a data quality element to a dataset depends on
both the dataset's eontent and its produet speeifieation; The result being that all data
quality elements may not be applieable to all datasets.
