Annex A: Terms and definitions ofthe ISO 19100 standards
231
summary of the eonformanee to the standard as weIl as all the details of the testing
that supports the given overall summary (IS037 2000)
conforming implementation
implementation whieh satisfies the requirements (IS037 2000)
connected
property of a geometrie objeet implying that any two direet positions on the objeet
ean be plaeed on a eurve that remains totally within the objeet (IS039 2003)
NOTE
A topologieal objeet is eonneeted if and only if all its geometrie realizations are eonneeted. This is not included as adefinition because it follows from
a theorem oftopology.
connected node
node that starts or ends one or more edges (IS039 2003)
conversion rule
rule for eonverting instanees in the input data strueture to instanees in the output data
strueture (lS050 2002)
convex hull
smallest eonvex set eontaining a given geometrie objeet (Illingworth 1997, IS039
2003)
NOTE
"Smallest" is the set theoretie smallest, not an indieation of a
measurement. The definition ean be rewritten as "the interseetion of all eonvex sets
that eontain the geometrie objeet".
convex set
geometrie set in whieh any direet position on the straight-line segment joining any
two direet positions in the geometrie set is also eontained in the geometrie set
(Illingworth 1997, IS039 2003)
NOTE
Convex sets are "simply eonneeted", meaning that they have no interior holes, and ean normally be eonsidered topologieally isomorphie to a Euclidean
ball of the appropriate dimension. So the surfaee of a sphere ean be eonsidered to be
geodesieally eonvex.
coordinate
one of a sequenee ofN numbers designating the position of a point in N-dimensional
spaee (lS043 2003)
NOTE
In a Coordinate Referenee System, the numbers must be qualified
by units.
coordinate conversion
change of coordinates, based on a one-to-one relationship, from one eoordinate system to another based on the same datum (lS043 2003)
