6.2 German standard-based systems for eadastral and
topographie information
With the emergenee of international standardisation for digital geospatial information first in CEN/TC287 and later in ISO/TC211 the Working Committee ofthe Surveying Authorities of the States of the Federal Republie of Germany (AdV) deeided
that legaey eadastral and topographie information systems (e.g. ALK, ALB, ATKIS)
had to undergo a eomplete redesign to embraee International Standards. Members of
AdV took an aetive part in Germany's national body DIN alongside with German
GIS vendors shaping standards for digital geospatial information in the respeetive
CEN and ISO Teehnieal Committees and at the same time applying them to the design of next generation highly integrated German eadastral and topographie information systems AFIS, ALKIS, ATKIS. Of these ALKIS (Authoritative Cadastral Map
Information System) is intemationally best known as an approach to challenge praetieality of ISO 19100 series standards that ean serve as a testbed and referenee implementation for high quality eadastral data management aimed at positional and
timely aeeuraey and data and referential integrity.
The modelling of AFIS-ALKIS-ATKIS was done in UML applying ISO/TS
19103 (Coneeptual schema language) and ISO 19109 (Rules for applieation schema)
to the eadastral and topographie applieation domain. The UML model is tightly integrated with ISO/TC211 Harmonized UML Model using Rational Rose as a tool to
