4.3.4 Topology
Topology describes the neighbourhood relations of geometrie data and is mostly
used to accelerate computational geometry. Topology is an abstraction ofthe underlying geometry. Points where two or more curves meet are called nodes. The curves
between pairs of nodes are geometrically simplified to straight lines and called
edges. The surfaces surrounded by edges are called faces. The term to describe 3dimensional bodies defined by nodes, edges and faces is a topological solid.
The root dass of topology is TP _ Object. It has the subdasses TP _Primitive and
TP_Complex. The dass TP_Primitive is specialized to its subdasses TP_Node,
TP _Edge, TP ]ace, and TP _Solid.
