Mike Info Coast - A GIS Tool For CZM
A Situation of Typical Use
The standard scenario would be a coast, where bathymetric surveys record the depths
in a not necessarily uniform way. However, there may be cases where some or all of the
depths measured are structured in profiles. Typically several surveys are carried out for
a longer period of time (many years), though it is not expected that data will be
measured at the same locations from survey to survey. Often there will be some
correlation when surveys consist of profiles. After each survey, data will be imported
into MIKE INFO Coast and processed. At a later stage data might be exported for use
in LITPACK or MIKE 21.
As MIKE INFO Coast handles coastal data it is necessary for the users to
have a professional background in this area. The users must have some education and
academic knowledge, e.g. as an engineer. The user will be expected to enter data into
the system, manipulate the data using the functionalities provided and to make
presentations. This requires that the user is familiar with computerised data handling.
Data Handled by MIKE INFO Coast
MIKE INFO Coast handles data in the following categories:
Maps. This covers the various kinds of maps needed for presentation, e.g. maps of
coastlines, buildings, groynes. Maps are stored in shape file format, which is
ArcView’s native format.
