Development of a Spatial Decision Support System

The Decision Support System - Example Use
At its simplest a GIS can be used to visualize spatial data. This could, for example, the
distribution of flocks of dunlin observed over some time period with additional information
showing how these relate to the elevation of the shore (see Fig. 4). A simple quantitative
exploration of this type of data can include the use of statistics (such as Mann-Whitney) to
demonstrate the significance of perceived differences in preference between species.
