Himalayas to Bhutan, Nepal, northern
India, and northern Pakistan; China,
Korea, and Japan (Ratan and Kothiyal,
2011).
Habitat: Wetlands.
Description: It is a slender, annual
herb 90–150 cm tall. Stems are redtinged, slender, and leaves are broadly
triangular and acute up to 7 cm long.
This species has five-petaled white to
pink flowers arranged in a compound
raceme that produces laterally flowered cymose clusters. Young leaves,
stems, and blossoms of this species
have been used for both medicinal
and culinary purposes in Europe and
Asia (Healthwithfood.org; Ratan and
Kothiyal, 2011).
