Cladophora glomerata (Linnaeus) Kützing 1843
Order: Cladophorales
Family: Cladophoraceae
Common name: Mekong weed.
Distribution: Throughout North America, Europe, the Atlantic islands, the
Caribbean islands, Asia, Africa, Australia and New Zealand, and the Pacific

Description: Filaments of this species are branched and are attached
by rhizoids. They are dark green and
grow up to 200 cm. Branching is pseudodichotomous with insertion of side
branches generally oblique to horizontal. Cells are mostly cylindrical, 3–30
times longer than wide. Chloroplast is
parietal net-like with several pyrenoids
that are composed of two halves (bilenticular). Apical cells are cylindrical,
often slightly tapering, 21–90 µm wide,
and 1.5–13 times longer than wide. This
species is a great example of a dietary
supplement (Ramin, 2013; LRMW, 2001).
