Abstract :
The Mediterranean mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis is a species widely cultivated throughout
the world, thanks to its rapide growth, strong capacity of adaptation, great tolerance of
environmental parameters and its resistance to diseases.
This work aims: the monitoring of a mussel farm raised on a suspension die (sub-surface) at the
ORC Marine farm in Ain Taya Wilaya of Algiers, during the period from February 2021 to July
2021. The study took into account the physicochemical and biological monitoring of the
environment for two depths (6m and 10m), as well as the monthly evolution of the linear and
weight growth, the condition indices, the sex ratio, the mortality of the spat and half mussels in
the two studied depths (6m and 10m).
The results obtained in this study show that the spat and half mussels develop successfully and
present interesting growth performances in both depths with a rapid growth during the first
month of the study. The physicochemical quality of the water in the rearing environment is at
a satisfactory level and meets the requirements of the mussels. These results also show that the
growth in weight of the spat at 10m is rapid compared to that at 6m with a significant difference.
On the other hand, this growth is rapid in 6m half-mussels compared to 10m mussels with a
non-significant difference.
Key words : mussel culture, Mytilus galloprovincialis, spat, half mussel, growth, Ain taya,
