the past 10 years (Bargagli et al. 1987; Siegel et al. 1987; Barghigiani et al. 1989;
Ferrara et al. 1991; Palinkas et al. 1995; Ferrara et aI., 1998b in press). The majority
of the works are based on studies that deal with the amount and extention of
environmental contamination with the use of bioindicators such as lichens
(Ferrara et al. 1988; Bargagli 1990), plants (Gaggi et al. 1991; Bacci et al. 1994;
Hanson et al. 1995; Lodenius 1994) or animals (Gnamus et al. 1995). Available
data for individuating or characterizing the flux emission from the main mercury
sources are very scarce in literature.
